We are coming up to the start of
a new season. Our annual exhibition is currently displayed in Leyland
library and moves to South Ribble Museum in October. There will be an
opportunity to discuss camera techniques with various of of our members
on Saturday 23rd August at the library and at the museum on the 6th September.
Please bring your camera and manual if you have a query you want answering.
We hope to offer sessions for help before a meeting with prior arrangement
with a LPS member
Last season has seen an increase
in membership rising to 50 members. Many of these are new to photography
and have been keen to learn ~ those in the Advanced sections will need
to look to their laurels when the new season starts with additional members
in the group.
If you are interested in joining
a friendly society then please come along to our first night of the new
season on the 3rd of September where you will have the chance to meet
everyone , see work from committee members, learn how to mount prints
and the easiest way of preparing an image for entry into the monthly competitions.
The digital imaging section has been
a great success. With more and more competitions not having a slide section
it is vital that we move with the times. There is still an active slide
section at Leyland, in which there is a mix of old and new.
We were very pleased to be awarded
a grant from the South Ribble Arts Forum which enabled us to buy the Spyder
last year. It has been put to good use with many of our members using
it.
Work from the Annual competition
will be displayed at the Craft Fair in Leyland Methodist Church on Saturday
7th June , in Leyland Library during August and at the South Ribble Museum
and Exhibition Centre { next to the Parish Church} in October.
For a number of years we have taken
photographs to submit to the management committee of St. Catherine's Hospice.
Our photographs have been used as part of the calendar produced each year
to help raise funds for this worthy cause. If you would like a calendar
with images taken locally then please contact Gary Poole at our society.
We have also run a competition within
one of the local High Schools last year. Pupils in Year 11 entered their
photographs into a competition run by us in liaison with one of the teachers
at Welfield High School. We were delighted with the standard of work and
the enthusiasm of the young people involved. We hope to continue this
for many years.
Jean Howard's LRPS panel remains
in our website gallery as a memory of her work.
Congratulations go to Fred Parkinson
who achieved a CPAGB award recently. This has been a good year for Fred
as he performed well in the internal competitions and also gained 3rd
place in the Brownedge festival.
